Red Salon

This week our friend Jeff asked us to be a part of a lunch group that gets together once a quarter here in Atlanta. Jeff has started this group and we are so happy to know about it. It's a group of artists, musicians, leaders, business men and women as well as pastors that meet at One Midtown Kitchen for lunch. Then they have guests speak about current projects to bring awareness followed by a speaker. We were one of the guests speaking about Recapture. We loved sharing our passion with around 80 in attendance. We also brought our work to share with them.

Then Donald Miller (author of: Blue Like Jazz) was the speaker. He kept us thinking and laughing the entire time. He spoke on story and how each us have one. I thought about how, as photographers, Katie and I both enjoy capturing that story. Whether the people we capture are in a wonderful chapter of their life that is about a new addition to the family or a union of two. Or a chapter that is about rebuilding and restoration. Also what a privilege that we have, that people want us to come into their lives to document those chapters.

We were thrilled to be a part of this quarter's lunch and look forward to being involved with these leaders and visionaries of Atlanta.

Cara Leigh

This past weekend we were documenting the wedding of Cara Leigh and Tim. We'll have more of those images to share soon, but for now we can finally share with you pictures from Cara Leigh's bridals. She was a stunning bride and we loved the images we were able to create.

Enjoy!

Baby Adler

I love it when our past brides and grooms start their families and come back to us for portraits. It's such a joy to see their new life starting together. Josh and Jenn had a busy year with a wedding, trip to Egypt, surgery, pregnancy and now a premie! What a year it has been. I'm so glad to see them is this new role as parents. It seems to be suiting them perfectly. Jenn's parents were in town and I loved that we were able to get some pictures of Adler with them. This is their first grandchild and they are absolutely smitten! :) So sweet.

Jenn is such a great mother. She is calm and relaxed. I admired how in control and content she is with this new addition.

Adler had a rough night before I arrived. He decided to catch up on his sleep while I was there. It worked perfectly for me....maybe not so much for Jenn and Josh the night before though.

I love the hands of a mother. So graceful and strong.

Now here we have a grandmother's hands surrounding this beautiful new babe. Such stories are written on her hands and I love how Adler is completely secure in her.

Elizabeth and Scott

We just adore Elizabeth and Scott. They will be saying their vows at Frost Chapel this fall with a reception at Barnsley Gardens. Since we were married at Frost, it holds a dear place in our hearts. Elizabeth is such a beautiful woman and is always so kind to us. We love seeing how Scott cares for her and to see their playful relationship. What a joy it will be to capture their day. Here are some pictures from their engagement session back on April 12th. Enjoy!

Happy Earth Day!

At the risk of sounding like a complete tree hugger. ( ;D ) I wish you all a Happy Earth Day. Today is a great reminder to get out there and recycle, use cloth bags and use eco friendly items. You can make a huge difference. We personally LOVE Seventh Generation products as well as organic food. This is our way of doing our part. The more you do the more aware you are and you won't look at anything the same again. Every purchase is considered as to it's impact. This is our planet and what we will have to give to our children. It's part of our heritage and legacy. In all we do we want to have the next generation in mind. Join us today in conserving and protecting our planet!

Katie's Favorites

OK, I have to say one of my favorite items is my iPhone. It has totally changed how we are able to give our clients wonderful customer service as well as helping us work as we travel.

I actually dropped my phone last week and cracked the screen, but they still replaced it for me after half the screen was no longer touch sensitive. It's truly an amazing phone. I love having an ipod, phone, GPS, web browser, weather channel, camera and email all in one. I do keep it in a case so she doesn't get too banged up. Normally Katie + phone (of any kind) = problems. This one has been really good except for the crack. Anyone who runs their own business and is traveling a lot should make the investment. We've been so happy about ours!

Hope you all had a wonderful Monday and looking forward to a great week ahead!

Bebbinar

This week we were in a seminar here in Atlanta. It was a great week of learning and finding ways to fine tune our business. Jen and Steve were great and so fun to be with. Thanks for all you did guys!

I want to thank Leslie for keeping a camera on hand at all times. It was the community camera and made the documenting possible.

Steve and Jen driving the "kids" around.

Ruth and Steve at lunch.

Learning time at LaCour.

Mark and Jen at NoMas!

Steve enjoying some good conversation over dinner.

Chris and I....someone looks sleepy.

Jen discussing some ads in magazines at our loft.

Asia was thrilled to have everyone love on her. Jen and Steve love dogs and Asia can always tell a dog lover. She thought all 10 of us had come to see just her.

Mira and Jay

Recently our good friends Joy and Garrett sent our names to a wonderful couple. Mira and Jay will be having a traditional Indian Ceremony in Orlando this November. It's sure to be a wonderful time with all that Mira has planned so far. We met up with them on Sunday and had a wonderful time getting to know them both. They were so cute together and a joy to photograph. We loved how the spring colors echo the colors that will coat their wedding day. Enjoy their slideshow by clicking here.

Mira wore her scarf to stay warm on this spring day. I loved how the colors really stood out and balanced the picture as a whole.

What an adorable couple they are! This fuschia color will be a predominant on in their wedding.

These next three are my favorites. It shows the delicate grandeur of the world around them. Yet they are so peaceful in the middle of it all.

Katie's Favorites

Ask anyone that knows me well and you'll know a few things about my love of a hot beverage.

a. I'm not a big coffee drinker. I rarely have it.
b. I love tea...not just any tea...whole leaf tea.
c. I think good tea is an art and I love to find the perfect tea.

Right now I am drinking a whole leaf tea called "almond blossom." It actually includes slivered almonds. I love steeping my tea for the desired 3 - 4 minutes (based on the tea type) and including a natural sweetener and cream. Not everyone likes cream in their tea, but I just love it. You can only add cream to non fruit flavored teas though. If you put it in fruit flavored teas then it will curdle. If you want to know more about how to properly brew a cup of tea, click here.

Teas hold so many wonderful benefits for your body such as antioxidants. Click here to see a video about the benefits to tea and the difference in types of tea.

Asia turns four!

OK, so if you are a pet lover, then you'll really get into this post. If not, then you might think we are crazy. : ) Asia turned four today and it is also the anniversary of our first date! That is where the 6 of Four came from for those that don't know that....April 6th. Anyway, we wanted to make sure that Asia was able to have some fun today. We were at an engagement session and then dinner tonight, so we tried to make the middle of the day about her.

In the car ride. Can you feel the birthday anticipation. : )

Our first stop was at Pet'sMart and we let her pick out a toy and some treats. She was still a little unsure about the day and wouldn't eat her treat or play with her toy.

Then we headed over to lunch at Jeff and Andre's. Some of the people from our community group went there for a cook out. Asia and their dog Max were able to play. It was too fun to watch them chase each other. She was so happy.

The adorable Max!

Is this not just adorable? This is the view we had of them while we ate.

When we came back home she finally settled in and started playing with her toy. Making me happy. It was a fun day and I can't believe I rescued her four years ago. We've been through a lot together and it is fun to celebrate that.

Hope you all had a wonderful Sunday!

Anniversary

Today is our anniversary. We have taken half days the last couple of days to just spend time together. It's been nice and relaxing. Just what we both need! It's still amazing to both of us where our relationship has come and what a joy it is to be married to each other. We constantly get to live life with our best friends and to see every moment together. We have both grown and been stretched in amazing ways. We've seen our love and business grow due to it. We can honestly say how blessed we are and stand in awe of where God has brought us. So here is to another year and starting another chapter in our lives together. It made me teary today to just think of our lives together. We are truly thankful and humbled by the responsibility handed to us and the heritage of strong marriages in our families.

I love you babe.

Recapture Gallery Showing

It is kind of like a dream to see something that has been talked and thought about for so long to finally come to. We had two evenings to show and talk about the pictures, experiences and goals of Recapture on our recent trip to Thailand. We would like to thank everyone for coming out and showing your support. We would especially like to thank Digital Arts Studio for printing these beautiful prints. Thank you Ashley Tyner, of Soho Myriad, for coming out and for the wonderful custom framework. All pieces presented both evenings were for sale with the proceeds going back to Recapture to fund future projects. We are going to have a limited number of prints for sale of these and other prints that will be offered in the near future.

Here is a slideshow of actual pictures the we took while in Thailand that we had showing in our studio: Recapture Showing

The first evening, Sunday, was for friends and family. This, not only included our local family members, but our friends and our church family from All Souls Fellowship. A big thanks to Katie’s mom and sister for their help in providing and preparing most of the food for both nights! We had a wonderful turnout and inspiring feedback. Below are some of the details:

The cashew nuts that we had were actually bought in southern Thailand, outside of Phuket where there were rows and rows of cashew trees. We bought these at a roadside store where we watched as they turned over drying cashews in the sun.

The second evening, Monday, involved local Atlanta photographers. Thanks to all who helped in prep for this evening and as the night went on. It was actually funny to have some of these photographers ask us if they needed to go to the showing on Sunday or Monday because they were both our friends and photographers! Some of of our friends, Jeff and Andre Shinabarger, were present. Jeff has started a great project called the Gift Card Giver that you may want to check out! We were delighted to have Matt & Melissa Yung and their daughter Kai! Some of the other photographers in attendance were: Andrew and Rachel Niesen, Mark and Erin Adams, Mel and Jeremy Roth, Ernie and Chris Russell and Jen and Adam Linke with their son Hayden. Also, Will Godfrey, Jonathan and Lacey Lacour, Ross and Brandi Knight, Jessica Horwitz, Courtney Jessica’s associate, David and Paula Christensen, and Sara Speert and Nick. Finally the evening could not be complete without an apperiance by Zack Arias and Erik Dixon, accompanied by the talented, Meghan Coffee. A special thanks to Ben Vigil for lending his talent in documenting this evening for us.
